Runners

Overview

Runners are fast and agile contenders capable of scaling any structure found in the Garden. 

Although they can't kill the Hunter, Runners possess special Powered Bolts and Caltrops, which allow them to keep the Hunter in check. 

Communication, expediency and synergy are key to the Runners' success. 

Runners play in "third person". 

Classes

There are three Runner Classes to choose from. Each Class possesses a unique set of Powered Bolts and Caltrops. Understanding the different Classes and their purpose is essential to countering the Hunter's sheer force. 

Support

Class description

The Support Class provides various benefits to the Runner team. Although they have no Hunter-impeding powers per se, Support Runners can Shield and Heal their teammates from a safe distance, and thus, provide great survivability bonuses to the entire team.


Healing bolt

Tier 1

Heals Runners for 35 hp

Area of effect: 2.5m

Shield Bolt

Torment

Class description

The Torment Class specializes in debilitating effects. As a Torment Runner, your job is to harass and keep the Hunter in check while your team tries to complete objectives.

Perks

Runners can choose any combination of two Perks from the list below. Choose the Perks that best fit your play style. 

Cling Wrap

Increases wall clinging time by 500%

Quick Rescue

Improves rescuing speed by 50%

Lucky Charm

25% Chance to gain an additional Weapon Upgrade Part from Crate

Evade Master

Increases stamina recovery by 40%

Staying Alive

Increases time before bleedout when downed by 50%

Revivalist

Revive with full health instead of 1/3

Crawler

Increases crawl speed when downed by 40%

Damage Dodger

40% less damage when evading

Intellicoms

Intellicoms are a context sensitive action, notification lines that allow you to rapidly communicate vital information with your team. Intellicom lines follow a set of rules and priority ranking system; the lower the number, the higher the priority.

Losing Lives & Bleeding Out

Runners possess three communal lives. They lose one each time a Runner gets executed or bleeds out. When the Hunter downs a Runner, two things happen. First, the Runner starts bleeding out. Second, the Bloodpost gains one charge. While fellow Runners can rescue downed allies, downed Runners may crawl to and interact with Health Crates to avoid bleeding out. If downed Runners aren't rescued, however, they eventually bleed out and the Runner team loses one of their three communal lives. 

Note that each time a Runner is downed, that Runner's bleed out time is reduced. A Runner's bleed out time will not be reduced after their third time being downed. 

Tips and tricks

Control Class

You can use your Stun Bolts or Caltrops to curb the incoming Hunter and buy precious seconds or to cover your escape! Since you can’t outrun the Hunter in a foot -race, use your Degenerate Bolt to reduce the Hunter’s damage output and try juking your opponent. 

 

Support Class

You should never engage the Hunter head-on; your skill set is better suited for long-range support. For example, you can cover a Control Runner’s quick escape from a safe distance by providing Heals and Shields.

 

Torment Class

Try positioning yourself in the middle of the map and staying as close to the Hunter as possible. Use your Reveal Bolts whenever you have an opportunity! Being aware of the Hunter’s location at all times can help you better coordinate your next move. 

Torment Runners are also exceptionally good at rescuing Runners from the Bloodpost. Combine your Virus and Blind Bolts to slow the Hunter’s interaction time and to confuse them about your exact position. Once you’ve inflicted these debuffs on the Hunter, jump in for a quick rescue!
